Mom Jeans + A White Tee

What’s better than finding the perfect pair of jeans? Finding them for less than $100 and having them fit so comfortably you would be completely okay wearing them for the rest of eternity. I’m loving the vintage vibe that’s trending right now. High-waisted mom jeans, circle eye frames, it’s taking us back to a fashion era that I’ve always admired. Although, I did have to add a little modern twist. I love the pop of pattern these socks give an otherwise super simple outfit. Nasty gal has the best pattern socks for super cheap. I linked a similar pair below.

Gingham, Gorjana and Greens.

A few weeks ago I attended the opening of the new Gorjana storefront on a perfect corner in West Village. It was there that I first laid eyes on their unique crystal ring stack. I haven’t taken them off since I got them. Speaking of perfect pieces, I get so much use out of these gingham pants. Not only are they are SO comfortable but their fun pattern and flattering shape dress up any outfit. I actually grabbed this white tee at Urban Outfitters, I’m super picky about graphic tees and loved how simple yet beautiful this one was. The green, red and mustard are the perfect contrast against the black and white pants. I’m happy I got to run around in this outfit before fall came in full swing! Now? Maybe I’ll add a jean jacket or cozy cardigan on top.

P.S. – when doing some research for some affordable gingham pants to link for you guys, I found some really fun flared ones. I might just have to buy another pair! Links below.

Floral Slip Dress: transitioning with the seasons.

Fall is officially here, which means if you have limited closet space like me, it’s time to switch out your tanks and make room for your over-sized sweaters. Anytime I can use an item of clothing year-round, I’m all for it. Transitional pieces are what I live for. Which is why I loved that I could use this floral slip dress through basically all of the seasons. I swapped white tees for long sleeved turtlenecks, sneakers for booties, and beige bags for black backpacks. What are your favorite transitional pieces?

Places to Eat: Short Grain

Short Grain is a cute little cafe located in downtown Jersey City, that offers breakfast and lunch. Being a pescatarian, what enticed me the most was their menu filled with vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan options. After I tried their lemon ricotta hotcakes drizzled with honey and topped with berries, I was hooked. & of course they have amazing avo toast. As for the aesthetic? I love the light and airy feel of the inside: light wood, blue and white tiles, green plants and their beautiful plateing matches perfectly. In season, they have a few tables outside right on the sidewalk. It’s a perfect place to stop for a coffee, have a meal or sit with your laptop and get some work done.

My fall, but still feels like summer, uniform: sweaters, skirts and slip-ons.

My favorite thing about fall? The over-sized sweaters. Seriously, I could live in them. The cozy, comfy layers of knits and sweaters just warm me up. Well, we’re just getting into October and still getting these 80 degree days here on the east coast. What gives? So, those days where it’s a nice high 60’s, I’m throwing on a sweater. The flowy, light skirt balances out the heaviness of the sweater. & of course I’m loving that I can still get use out of my beige slip-ons. It’s the perfect fall, but still feels like summer, outfit.

Polka Dots.

As hard as I’ve tried, one thing I’ve come to accept is I’m just not a morning person. So, I’m constantly trying to find ways to make my morning routine more efficient. Which is why I’ve found a love for dresses. They are essentially a complete outfit in themselves; easy to throw on without too much thought. I snagged this dress from Zara when they were having a sale. I’m all about little lightweight black dresses; the big sleeves, polka dots details and the amazing discount, it was an easy purchase. One thing we can all agree on – finding staple everyday dresses makes the work week a little bit easier.

Line ’em up: 5 summer straw hats.

Welcome to your mid-twenties: where I’m kicking myself in the butt for the endless tanning beds I enjoyed in high school and college. Now, I’m buying serums and exfoliates left and right to try to get my skin back to normal. Which is one reason of my love for hats (sun protection please!) lately – and why I’m loving this straw hat trend. So, while I was on a hunt for the perfect one for summer,  I came across this $12 (yes, you read that right) hat from H&M. I’m not usually a pink person but I love the pink strap statement. Throughout my search I found some fun striped and pom-pom straw hats – links are below.

I believe the above hat is only available in-stores at H&M, but below are some others!

I’m loving this summer’s trends. Between the lightweight canvas sneakers, endless straw bags and tassels – it all just screams vacations and beaches. I also love that a lot of these trends come accessory-sized. Rather than splurging on a new dress, I can get a pair of trendy tassel earrings or circle bag that may not be in style next season. See below for my favorites picks.

Straw basket bag.

Woven circle bag.

White sunnies.

Canvas sneakers.

Palm-printed scarf.

Tassel earrings.

Sample Sales & Vintage Finds.

There is something that my mother taught me well, and that’s never to buy things full price. As I grow older, the things I want have a bigger price tag and I’ve had to learn some new tricks. One of my favorite ways to spend my lunch breaks are sample sales. Working in New York City and having access to them just blocks from my work is both a blessing and a curse. Although it’s fueled my shopping habits, I’ve been able to purchase some things I otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford.

Recently, Rebecca Minkoff had a sample sale where I was able to snag this black camera bag that never leaves my side on my weekends full of adventure. The cool thing? Rebecca Minkoff had her last sample sale online, so anyone was able to reign in on the deals. Could be a trend that more designers will move to. The second thing? Vintage shops. I was able to snag this Guess jean jacket from my one of my favorite vintage stores, VERY, for under $30! Also, who doesn’t love scouring through racks of clothes to find that one unique piece you know no one else will have on the streets. Happy shopping!

spring has sprung.

As I get older, and let’s be honest, shop more, I find myself purchasing more neutral, minimal staples and less colorful, bold statement pieces. So it didn’t surprise me when I sat down and made my spring wish list that it had a jean jacket, neutral t-shirt dresses, dainty necklaces and simple sneakers. As a girl on a budget, I can create more outfits with pieces like this and who couldn’t live in simple outfits like these every day? & did I mention, this t-shirt dress was only $15?
